Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Biography – Ruth Bader Ginsburg (born March 15, 1933) is an associate judge of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ginsburg was named by President Bill Clinton and was sworn in on August 10, 1993. She is the second judge (after Sandra Day O’Connor) of four to be confirmed in court (along with Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, that continue to serve). After O’Connor’s retirement, and until Sotomayor joined the court, Ginsburg was the only judge of the Supreme Court.

During that time, Ginsburg became more forceful with his dissensions, which were observed by legal observers and in popular culture. Generally, she is seen as belonging to the liberal wing of the court. Ginsburg is the author of notable majority opinions, including United States v. Virginia, Olmstead v. L.C., and Friends of the Earth, Inc. v. Laidlaw Environmental Services, Inc.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Education

Ruth Joan Bader Ginsburg was born Ruth Joan Bader on March 15, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York. The second daughter of Nathan and Celia Bader grew up in a working-class, low-income neighbourhood in Brooklyn. Ginsburg’s mother, who was a great influence in his life, taught him the value of independence and a good education.

Celia did not attend college but worked in a clothing factory to help pay for her brother’s college education, an act of selflessness that always impressed Ginsburg. At James Madison High School in Brooklyn, Ginsburg worked diligently and excelled in his studies. Unfortunately, his mother fought cancer during the high school years of Ginsburg and died the day before Ginsburg graduation.
